Psalms 46

Omnes gentes, plaudite.

The Gentiles are invited to praise God for the establishment of the kingdom of Christ.

1Unto the end. A Psalm for the sons of Korah.
46:1Notice that this verse has ‘pro filiis Core,’ whereas other Psalms have simply ‘filiis Core.’ Thus, the translation of this verse is ‘for the sons of Korah,’ whereas the other verses should be translated as ‘to the sons of Korah,’ or, more loosely, ‘of the sons of Korah.’(Conte)

2All nations, clap your hands. Shout joyfully to God with a voice of exultation.
46:2Or, ‘all Gentiles,’ or, ‘all unbelievers.’(Conte)

3For the Lord is exalted and terrible:
a great King over all the earth.
4He has subjected the peoples to us and subdued the nations under our feet.
5He has chosen us for his inheritance:
the splendor of Jacob, whom he has loved.
6God ascends with jubilation, and the Lord with the voice of the trumpet.
7Sing psalms to our God, sing psalms.
Sing psalms to our King, sing psalms.
8For God is the King of all the earth. Sing psalms wisely.
9God will reign over the peoples. God sits upon his holy throne.
10The leaders of the peoples have been gathered together by the God of Abraham.
For the strong gods of the earth have been exceedingly exalted.
